All About Batuu Bounty Hunters!

Writer's picture: Nicole PierceNicole Pierce

If you’re looking for something new, exciting, and interactive to do in Galaxy’s Edge Batuu Bounty Hunters is the game for you! You will need a MagicBand+ and a phone or data enabled tablet with the Play Disney Parks app installed to play. I played on my last visit, and I’ve got all the details for you!

Gameplay

As an aspiring Bounty Hunter, you start each session at the bounty board. This is located next to the speeder garage, diagonally across from the Droid Depot. Just tap your MagicBand+ on the bounty board to accept a job! Your next step is to follow the signal. When your band lights up green and vibrates with quick pulses, you’re moving towards your target. When your bands lights turn red with a long vibration, you’re moving farther away. It’s a Disney tech version of the hot-cold game!

When you’ve located your target the lights on your MagicBand+ will turn purple and vibrate rapidly. Scan the door with your thermal scanner (your phone, open to the Play Disney Parks app) to identify and register the target.

Head back to the Guildmaster’s Hideout (same location as the Bounty Board, but a little to the right) to collect your credits. You’ll scan your MagicBand+ to do this!

Repeat until you’ve located all the targets. Then you’ll be invited to join the Guild of Bounty Hunters!

There are 20 bounties in total each with the different credit amount.

Review

My husband and I both played! We played for about an hour and completed 5 bounties each. We were always assigned different targets! While we were able to walk around together our targets were rarely ever located in the same place.

Everyone who plays will need a MagicBand+ and a Play Disney Parks account. This is something to keep in mind if you’re playing with kids. They’ll need to share your account and/or device or have a device of their own with a Play Disney Parks account you’ve created for them. Your kids won’t be able to walk off on their own so even if you all have your own MagicBand+ you’ll be looking for your targets together but separately.

I noticed that my target moved if I took too long to locate it while my husband was locating his target. Sometimes it would show up behind a door I’d already scanned previously! If you want to cancel your target you have to go back to the bounty board. If you stop playing without canceling your bounty your MagicBand+ will continue to vibrate and light up!

We also noticed that each scannable door is marked with the Guild of Bounty Hunters symbol! There are a dozen scannable doors right now – all located within Galaxy’s Edge. The bounty gets registered by tapping your MagicBand+ on the door panel linked with the door your target is hiding behind. These panels are square with lights and buttons, they all look the same, and are typically within a foot or two of the door.

I’d also like to mention that it can be difficult to see the lights on your band in the bright Florida sun. I was experiencing some connectivity issue with the Play Disney Parks app, and I was not able to use the thermal scanner properly. Despite this I was still able to identify the target and collect the bounty – scanning is optional, but immersive! The credits show up within Batuu Bounty Hunters and the Galaxy’s Edge Datapad game – but they can’t be used for anything.

You can spend as little or as much time playing as you’d like, and you can play over multiple visits! I would get the MagicBand+ just for this experience – it was so fun!

Will you play on your next trip?

You don't have a trip coming up? Let's change that!
